Whether a steel door rusts depends not on the door itself but on the surface treatment and the local air. Where rust starts and how it's stopped.

The "RC2" and "RC3" you keep seeing in steel door marketing come from EN 1627, a standard used across Europe. It doesn't sort doors into "secure / insecure"; it defines how long a door resists, against which tools, and against which attacker profile. The distinction matters, because security isn't an absolute property — it's a matter of buying time.

These times measure how long the attacker is actively working the door. RC2's 3 minutes may sound short; in practice, since most burglaries are abandoned when the first few minutes yield nothing, it's a meaningful figure.
The general approach: for apartment flat entrances and homes with a normal risk profile, RC2 is a sensible target. For ground floors, detached houses and entrances hidden from view, RC3 is preferred. RC4 and above aren't for homes — they belong to vaults and specialized facilities.

That's why "we fitted an RC2 lock" doesn't make a door RC2. The class is awarded to the complete, installed door.
The world's finest lock is useless on a door whose frame isn't properly anchored to the wall — the point of attack becomes the frame-wall junction, not the lock. In our doors, the one-piece inner/outer frame grips the wall with the clamp technique and is fixed with metric 8 bolts.
A door that can't be forced at the lock gets attacked at the hinges. Fixed pins prevent that: even if a hinge is cut, the leaf won't come out of the frame. Ours carry five 20 mm pins on the hinge side.
The cylinder is the door's most easily replaced part — and therefore the most targeted. Use a cylinder protected against snapping and drilling. Details in the lock systems guide.
For a door to claim an RC class, it must have been tested for that class at an accredited laboratory — and the test applies to one specific door configuration. We don't state any RC class on this site that isn't backed by a test report. Instead, we spell out every item the door is made of — sheet thickness, reinforcement, lock brand, pin count, frame connection — so you can compare. When collecting quotes, ask companies claiming an RC class for the test report; a class claim without a certificate behind it is a marketing phrase.
Some home insurance policies tie premiums or coverage terms to the entrance door meeting a certain security level. If you hold a policy, the fine print is worth a look: some policies settle for the words "steel door", while others ask for concrete criteria like the number of locking points.
The thing to watch is that whatever the policy demands can be proven with documents. If the lock brand and model, point count and installation date appear on the invoice or warranty certificate, there's no trouble later.
Multi-point locking is the expectation for residential entrance doors; a door that engages the frame at several points can't be levered open at a single spot. The exact count depends on the door's dimensions and the lock system chosen.
It's a security component that stops the lock mechanism from releasing when the cylinder is snapped. Since the cylinder is the door's most-targeted part, that protection is worth having.
On basic doors with a single latch and single locking point, it can be possible. On a door with multi-point locking and bolts that engage the frame, the method gets nowhere.

No. The door is one link in a chain; the frame-wall connection, the structure of the surrounding wall and any glazed side sections should be assessed together. The strongest door won't deliver as expected when mounted in a weak wall.
Generally, yes. Ground and entrance floors are the easiest to reach from outside; a higher lock class and body reinforcement are preferred there.
